Children’s Lectionary

Q: We have weekly school Mass for our K-4 students and we are currently using the Children’s Lectionary.

My pastor and I were visiting about how often the Children’s  Lectionary  readings often do not come close to matching the regular daily readings even within the same week. A good example is  Ordinary Time. Do you have another suggestion we could be using for Mass with our K-4th graders?

Thanks for your help!

A: The nature of that lectionary is to provide simpler readings for the kids, and it’s OK to use it even when they do not match the day’s readings.

There is no other approved version of the scriptures for proclamation at mass. So either you use the regular readings and do your best to explain them, or you replace them on the days when you have the children’s mass with other readings in the children’s lectionary.
