Q: You recently pointed out a theological error in the collect for December 8, the Immaculate Conception. The prayer concludes this way: “so, through her intercession, we, too, may be cleansed and admitted to your presence.” But Mary was not “cleansed”. She was immaculately conceived. The correct translation would be “clean”.
Should the prayer just be recited or sung as it is published, or should it be slightly modified to reflect a more sound theology?

A: Just read the prayer the way it’s there. People know what the intent is, but until we get a correction from the Vatican, we leave it alone.
