Q: Our diocese will host a National Safeguarding Conference (for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable People). During those days, one of the masses that will be celebrated will use the “Masses for Various Needs and Occasions: For the Forgiveness of Sins.” obviously on a weekday in O.T.
What color of vestment is prescribed for this Mass?
Thank you.

A: God bless you for offering these prayers.
White or violet is permitted. The Missal’s introduction to the Masses for Various Needs and Occasions says this: “6. These Masses may be said with the color proper to the day or the liturgical time or with the color violet if they have a penitential character, see e.g., nos. 31, 33, 38 (cf. the General Instruction, no. 347).”
The Mass you ask about is #38, so violet is permitted but not required.
