Processional Cross

Q: I remember reading somewhere that when there is already an altar crucifix, the processional cross is put out of sight (i.e. in sacristy). At our seminary, the altar crucifix is on the altar, then there is larger crucifix behind the priest above the tabernacle, then a stained glass of the crucifixion directly above the crucifix. Yet, the processional cross is still off to the side, yet visible to the people. Yet, I cannot seem to locate the rubric line on “hiding” the processional cross in such case. Would you be bale to provide me some guidelines in this regards?

A: GIRM 122 says, “The cross adorned with a figure of Christ crucified, and carried in procession, may be placed next to the altar and serve as the altar cross, in which case it must be the only cross used; otherwise it is put away in a dignified place.” Here’s a previous post on my blog: https://paulturner.org/altar-cross-2/ .
