Q: We recently received as a gift at our parish from one of our parishioners a Golden Cover for the Book of the Gospels. She had been in Greece and brought it back as a gift. It has on one side Saint John, Saint Peter, Saint Paul, and Saint Mark. On the front side it has Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel.
My question is: Can this cover be used at the altar of our Roman Catholic Church parish with our Book of the Gospels?

A: I don’t remember seeing anything in the liturgical documents about a cover for the book of the gospels. There’s no forbidding its use, especially if it enhances the splendor of the book and does not interfere with its contents.
