Introductory Rites

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q:  Although the GIRM directs that, after the priest reverences the altar he goes to the ‘chair’ for the introductory rites and readings. Some priests in Australia, after kissing the altar, remain at the center of the altar from where the introductory rites, Greeting, Penitential, Gloria, if Sunday or feast day, and Collect occur. He then goes to the chair for the Readings.  Comment?

A:  I’m with you. I wish a priest wouldn’t do this. But even in the US, it’s not unusual to see what you describe.
