Letter of delegation

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: An unbaptized person is undergoing RCIA classes with us, and she is going to receive the Sacrament of Initiation on Easter Vigil.  Do I still have to ask for a letter of delegation from the bishop to confirm her on Easter Vigil since she is still not baptized?  I just wanted to make sure I am following the canonical process.  Thank you for your help..

A: Do not send a letter to the bishop.

You have authority to confirm an adult whom you baptize, and you are obliged to use that authority. The authority comes from canons 883 §2 and 885 §2, not from the bishop. You do not send a letter requesting delegation because you already have the authority.

Blessings on you for wanting to do the right thing!
