Q: We have a large church which years ago moved the baptismal font from the narthex into the church nave. It stands within 10 feet of the priest’s chair and is obviously visible to anyone in the church. Should this Easter candle be removed during Lent and only used for baptisms and funerals during Lent rather than having it on permanent display? If we’re looking forward to the Resurrection, is it opportune to have the candle on display throughout Lent. Please favor us with your thoughts?

A: There’s no need to change its location. It is more important to have the paschal candle set in relationship to the font than to create an absence in relationship to Lent. A person can still be baptized during Lent.
