Various Needs and Occasions

Q: Greetings Father and thank you so much for all your guidance and knowledge.

On July 1 we have the 7th Anniversary of the founding of our parish which combined Sacred Heart Church and St. Philip the Apostle Churches. (We have not celebrated this as a parish solemnity in years past).

Would you recommend Various Needs and Occasions 1, For the Church and treat it as a parish solemnity with the Gloria and Creed? Or do you have another thought? We observe each building’s dedication Masses in our parish calendar.

It’s also the first “daily Mass” of our new pastor and I will include this in the UP petitions.

Again, many thanks for your assistance!

A: Nice to mark that anniversary. I think your idea for using that Mass from VNO is good, but normally that Mass would be celebrated without the Gloria and Creed. The Gloria may be added locally for days of special significance, so you could make an argument for it. But there’s also an argument for keeping the celebration simpler. Even though you’re marking a milestone, it’s not as big a day as the dedication of each of those churches.
