Funeral Mass on a Solemnity

In Paul Turner's Blog by Paul Turner

Q: This coming Friday, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart,  we have a burial Mass scheduled.  KIndly refresh my memory, in this particular circumstance – readings of the solemnity, or from the funeral Lectionary?  Orations of the Mass? Preface?

Thanks for your help!

A: One reason I wrote Sacred Times was to find quick answers to questions like this one, so I checked there myself to see if I could find the response. I wrote that a funeral Mass may take place on a solemnity, as long as it’s not a solemnity of obligation, and I cited GIRM 380.

I just doublechecked, and that info is correct.

So, yes, you may celebrate a complete funeral Mass—readings, orations, preface, the works.
