Solemnity of Mary

Q:  I have a question regarding this year’s calendar.  We are going to maintain a regular schedule on the weekend of December 30/31, which includes a 5:30pm Mass on the 31st.  Would that particular Mass be for the Holy Family, or an anticipated Mass for the Solemnity of Mary? Or could it be either?
As always, thanks for your guidance!

A:  The Sunday liturgy takes precedence because the Solemnity of Mary is not a day of precept this year.  Celebrate the Holy Family on Sunday night.
